biography
Yogi Bhajan was born in 1929 in Kot Harkarn near the city of Gujranwala in what was then India and now Pakistan as the son of a doctor. His family lived in the tradition of the Sikhs .
He became interested in medical questions and natural healing methods very early on and studied yoga from an early age. At the age of 16 he was declared a master of Kundalini Yoga by Sant Hazara Singh , his teacher . He visited many spiritual teachers in various ashrams in India and in the Himalayas and also completed an economics degree at the University of Panjab .
After graduating, he started a family and began a successful career in the Indian civil service. At the same time he broadened his horizon of experience as a yogi and spent a few years with karma yoga in the Golden Temple in Amritsar (northern India), the most important temple of the Sikhs.
In 1968 he was invited to Canada by the University of Toronto to give a lecture on yoga. From there he went to Los Angeles, where the 3H organization was founded on his initiative. Yogi Bhajan defined “healthy, happy, holy” (healthy, happy, holy) as fundamental rights that are promoted by Kundalini Yoga. They correspond to the yogic philosophy of the unity of body, mind and soul. Today there are more than 300 Kundalini Yoga centers in 35 countries.
As a devoted Sikh, he motivated thousands to take the path of Sikhism. Through his commitment, Sikh Dharma was recognized as a religion in the USA in 1971. In recognition of his extraordinary influence, he was given the title of Siri Singh Sahib as the religious leader of the Sikhs in the Western Hemisphere. In 1971 he became "Mahan Tantric" - the only living master of White Tantra Yoga and led courses on this all over the world. As a doctor of communication science, Yogi Bhajan imparted knowledge, training and tools that allow people to specifically develop their speaking behavior and to communicate in accordance with their own identity.
As a proponent of world peace and religious unity, Yogi Bhajan advised and met political and religious leaders such as Pope John Paul II , the Dalai Lama and Bill Clinton . He died on October 6, 2004 in Española, New Mexico.
