Yolanda (Brindis al amor) is a Mexican film from 1942. This love story was directedby Dudley Murphy , and the screenplay was written by Ana Antonia and Manuel Reachi .
The film is about the Russian dancer Yolanda, who arrives in Mexico with her company in 1909. There she falls in love with the young cadet Julio. However, the influential Carlos opposes this love: he threatens Yolanda with the fact that her parents would be deported to Siberia if she rejected his romantic advances. Julio joins the forces rebelling against President Porfirio Díaz . At the end of the film, Yolanda wakes up and realizes that it was just a bad dream, triggered by a letter from Russia. After all, you and Julio can marry without any problems.
The film was produced by Promesa Films . Dudley had previously made independent films such as The Emperor Jones in 1933 in the United States . He was hired by the producer Manuel Reachi, after he had started work on Yolanda (Brindis al amor) himself. The film premiered in Mexico on January 14, 1943. On January 26 of the same year, the film was shown in the Museum of Modern Art . In 1951, Astor Pictures published a version shortened from 106 to 81 minutes. The dubbed version was titled Toast to Love and directed by Arman Chelieu .
