Coordinates: 35 ° 13 ′  S , 138 ° 24 ′  E The District Council of Yorke Peninsula is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 5834 km² and is home to 11,000 inhabitants (2016).

The council is headquartered in Maitland in the north of the LGA.

The District Council of Yorke Peninsula occupies most of the Yorke Peninsula , about 100 kilometers west of the metropolis of Adelaide .

The area includes 71 hamlets and villages: Agery, Ardrossan , Arthurton, Balgowan, Black Point, Bluff Beach, Brentwood, Chinaman Wells, Clinton Center, Cockle Beach, Coobowie, Corny Point, Couch's Beach, Curramulka, The Dipper, Dowlingville, Dunn Point , Edithburgh , Foul Bay, Hardwicke Bay, Honiton, Inneston, James Well, Kainton (Corner), Kleins Point, Koolywurtie, Maitland, Marion Bay, Minlaton, Mount Rat, Muloowurtie, Oaklands, Parara, Parsons Beach, Petersville, Pine Point, The Pines, Point Pearce, Point Souttar, Point Turton, Pondalowie Bay, Port Arthur, Port Clinton, Port Giles, Port Julia, Port Minlacowie, Port Moorowie, Port Rickaby, Port Victoria, Port Vincent, Price, Rogues Point, Sandilands, Sheoak Flat, South Kilkerran, Stansbury, Stenhouse Bay, Sultana Point, Sunbury, Tiparra, Tiddy Widdy Beach, Troubridge Point, Urania, Warooka, Wauraltee, Weavers, Weetulta, Winulta, Wool Bay, Yorke Valley and Yorketown .

The Yorke Peninsula Council has twelve members, eleven of which are councilors elected by the residents of the three wards (four each from Kalkabury Ward and Innes Pentonvale Ward, three from Gum Flat Ward). These three districts were determined independently of the localities. The council chairman and mayor is also elected by all residents of the LGA.
