Luis Ramón Campas Medina (born August 6, 1971 in Navojoa ) is a Mexican professional boxer and former world champion of the IBF in the light middleweight division.

Career

He started professional boxing in 1987 and won 56 fights in a row, 50 of which by knockout. He became Mexican champion and North American welterweight champion of the NABF and also defeated the undefeated IBF world championship challenger Roger Turner and WBC world champion Jorge Vaca . In September 1994, however, he was defeated in the fight for the IBF welterweight title against Félix Trinidad , but had this on the ground in the second round. This was followed by eight wins against strong opponents, including WBO world champion Genaro Léon . In October 1996 he boxed for the WBO welterweight title, but lost to José Luis López . He got another World Cup chance after winning four fights, including a win against former Olympic medalist Christopher Sande .

He won it in December 1997 the IBF world championship in light middleweight prematurely against the undefeated Raúl Marquez . In March 1998 he won by giving up his opponent Anthony Stephens at the end of the third round. This was followed by two more title defenses against Pedro Ortega and Larry Barnes. In December 1998 he finally lost the World Championship belt due to an injury to Fernando Vargas . Until 2002 he won against the undefeated Tony Ayala, and again against Christopher Sande and the veterans Rob Bleakley and Tony Menefee.

In March 2002 he lost the fight for the WBO light middleweight title against Daniel Santos . Also in the fight for the world title of the WBA and WBC in May 2003, he suffered a defeat against Óscar de la Hoya . In the following years he achieved a mixed record with defeats against, among others, Amin Asikainen and Matthew Macklin , as well as victories against, among others, WBA world champion Alejandro García . He also reached a draw against Hector Camacho in May 2009 . Since 2004 he has also boxed in the middleweight division.
