Yoshiaki Numata

Yoshiaki Numata ( Jap. 沼田義明 , Numata Yoshiaki * 19th April 1945 in Hokkaido ) is a former Japanese boxer in the super featherweight and World Champion.

Career

Numata won his first 25 fights, most of them on points. In 1965 he won the OPBF title with a points win. On June 15, 1967 he boxed against Flash Elorde for the world title of the associations WBA and WBC and won over 15 rounds by majority decision. However, he already lost the title in his first title defense to his compatriot Hiroshi Kobayashi due to a technical knockout in round 12.

In 1969 he went against Mando Ramos again for the world championship belt of the associations WBA and WBC, this time however in the lightweight . Ramos knocked him hard in the 6th round. In the following year he was able to conquer the WBC world champion belt in super featherweight, in his old weight class , when he defeated the Filipino René Barrientos by a split point decision. He was able to defend the belt a total of four times.
