Yoshiyuki Yamanaka

Yoshiyuki Yamanaka ( Japanese 山 中 良 之 , Yamanaka Yoshiyuki ; born March 4, 1953 in Wakayama Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz musician ( tenor and soprano saxophone , flute ).

Yoshiyuki Yamanaka began learning the tenor saxophone while studying at the Kyoto Pharmaceutical School ; He made his first professional appearances with Osamu Ichikawa and Satoshi Inoue . Yamanaka played from the 1980s a. a. with Eiji Nakayama / Masaru Imada ( North Plain , 1982), his album Peggy's Blue Skylight was created in 1988 , on which he can be heard with Haruki Satō , Takayuki Katō , Masayoshi Yoneda , Sachi Hayasaka and Masayuki Kume . In the following years he also took part in the recordings of Yoshiaki Miyanoue ( Bluesland , 1992). Several of his own albums followed with Pentatonic Records , Paddle Wheel and Origin Records .

His album Great Time reached fourth place in the Swing Journal readers' poll in 1997 . In 1999 he came third in the readers' poll of this magazine as a tenor saxophonist. Throughout his career, he has also worked with Keiko Lee , Barry Harris , Jimmie Smith , Jimmy Scott, and Earl May . In the field of jazz, Tom Lord lists him in seven recording sessions between 1982 and 1999.
