You Keep Coming Back Like a Song is a song that Irving Berlin composed and wrote for the soundtrack of the music film Blau ist der Himmel ( Blue Skies ) by Stuart Heisler from 1946. In the film it is performed by Bing Crosby . The chorus is: You keep coming back like a song, A song that keeps saying 'Remember' ... and is about the fact that memories keep coming back, like an old song that you love and that you cannot escape ( Can ' t run away from you, dear ...).

History of the song

According to Berlin biographer Edward Jablonksi, the song, which reflects Irving Berlin's love for his wife Elin, may have been written as early as 1943, but was only released in the aforementioned film: Bing Crosby and the female leading actress Joan Caulfield sing in the finale of Blue Skies the song together.

Bing Crosby was with the song in January 1946 at number 12 on the US Billboard charts and in Australia in January 1947 at number 1. In the list of his most successful songs, the song is number 39.

Dinah Shore also recorded the song and was able to record the greater success over Crosby in the USA. Shore was number 5 on the Billboard charts for three weeks from June 1947 and was also number 5 in the Hit Parade of 1946, and also number 1 in Australia for one month in June 1947. The song occupies number 8 on their list of their most successful songs. Bing Crosby's version was number 27 on the Billboard chart in 1946, while Dinah Shore was number 31, while Crosby's version was more successful in the UK.
