The Harvey Girls is an American musical film directed by George Sidney from 1946. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Samuel Hopkins Adams .

Susan Bradley is on her way west and meets a group of women on her journey. The women plan to open a restaurant on the railway line that is under construction so that they can prepare food for the workers. She had other plans, but joins the women and is the owner of the inn together with the others. There is competition with Ned Trent's saloon opposite .

The film was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) with an estimated budget of 2.5 million US dollars . Filming lasted from January 12 to June 4, 1945. The film was shot at MGM's studio in Culver City , California . A gun battle was filmed in Victorville , California. Other locations were Chatsworth , California and Monument Valley .
Theatrical release
The film was released in US theaters on January 18, 1946 and in British theaters on April 29, 1946 . In Germany it opened in cinemas on October 24, 1947.
