You missed Sonja is a German horror thriller from 2012 . The short film was made at the Potsdam University of Film and Television as the official first Stephen King Dollar Baby from Germany.

action

Germany's first Stephen King Dollar Baby based on the short story "Der Rastplatz". Rick Hardin, a trill writer in his mid-30s, actually only wants to pick up his girlfriend Sonja from a lonely gas station. Unfortunately it seems to have already been picked up by the taxi. When he witnesses how a man beats a woman in the toilet, Rick gathers up all his courage and rushes to help the woman with a trick, but she does not want to be helped. Rick helplessly has to admit that sometimes life doesn't tick the way it seems at first glance. Unfortunately, this realization threatens to come too late.

production

The film was made as a diploma film by director Félix Koch, production student Paul Andexel, and film music student Héctor Marroquin at the Potsdam Film and Television Academy . The aim of the producer was to make a consistent genre film at the University of Film and Television, of a kind that has not yet been realized there. It was shot in September 2010 at a gas station in Bad Liebenwerda. Even during the shooting there were technical problems due to the extensive rain scenes and night shoots, which meant that the film could not be completed. The additional shooting could only be carried out in June 2011. For this purpose, new money was raised through private crowdfunding by Stephen King fans all over the world in order to be able to finish the film. In addition, there was the great support of large film production companies from Germany, which supported the film financially. The completion of the film took until the summer of 2012 because the visual effects with their length of over nine minutes were extremely complex.

music

The music was played by the Babelsberg film orchestra. In order to give the music an eerie feeling, the composer Héctor Marroquin decided to play an organ and alienate it in such a way that the low notes further support the music of the orchestra. In the run-up to the world premiere, the soundtrack was offered for streaming on soundcloud.

Festivals and prizes

The film has already been shown with great enthusiasm at several festivals. It celebrated its official world premiere on October 26, 2012 at the 46th Hof Film Festival. In August 2012 he was nominated for the first "no fear award" at First Steps in Berlin. In 2013 the film will be shown at the first Genrenale in Berlin, the Aubagne International Film Festival and the Cleveland International Film Festival.

Reviews

Jens Blankennagel wrote in the Berliner Zeitung on October 14, 2012 that the film "looks extremely stylish and has all the ingredients for a 'shocker'.

The jury of the First Step wrote in their jury statement: "“ A thriller from Stehen King's “Dollar Baby Program”, narrated beautifully, without embarrassing mask derailments - Chapeau! Also very well solved in terms of production - despite a fairly small budget is here this energy everywhere: "We want to do that because we love the well-told horror genre!" - The indispensable struggle for a better film is definitely an important ingredient for a future fearless producer!
