Younan Nowzaradan

Younan Nowzaradan , Persian یونان نوذرادان(Born October 11, 1944 in Tehran ), also known as Dr. Now , is an Iranian - American surgeon and author . He specializes in vascular and bariatric surgery . He gained fame through the television series Mein Leben mit 300 kg , in which he supports and accompanies extremely overweight people in losing weight.

Career

Nowzaradan comes from Iran. In 1970 he received his doctorate from Tehran University with a doctorate in medicine . In 1971 he took part in the Medical Orientation Program at Saint Louis University and in 1975 completed a 4-year general surgery course at St. John's Hospital in Detroit .

In 1976, Nowzaradan joined a coronary heart surgeon community at the Texas Heart Institute after he and his work became known to noted cardiac surgeon Denton Cooley .

In 1986 Nowzaradan founded a health center for general medicine and surgery together with three other doctors. In the beginning he concentrated on the surgical interventions himself, but later also took over the general medicine area when his co-founders gradually retired. In addition to intensive surgical work in his health center, Nowzaradan also performed operations in other medical facilities. As a general and vascular surgeon, he was the first Houston doctor to recognize, research, and perform the benefits of laparoscopic surgery for procedures for which it was not previously intended.

In his many years of practice, Nowzaradan has dealt with many rare and complicated medical cases, in particular with patients with severe obesity, who have so far been rejected by other surgeons due to their very high body weight of sometimes well over 300 kilograms.

In addition to gastric bypass operations, Nowzaradan now also performs many general, vascular and plastic interventions in the form of removing excess skin.

Life

Nowzaradan has lived in the United States since 1971. He currently lives in Houston , Texas . There he works as a bariatric surgeon in various hospitals. He is a member of numerous associations and foundations, including a. at the American Medical Association , the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, and the Texas Medical Association .

In 1975 he married his wife Delores, with whom he has three children. Together with his son Jonathan Nowzaradan (* 1978) and his production company Megalomedia , he produces the series Mein Leben with 300 kg . In 2002 he divorced his wife.

In 2015, Nowzaradan was sued by a former patient for forgetting to remove a 29 cm long metal tube, which he used for gastric band surgery. The court dismissed the lawsuit.
