The Young Knives are an English indie rock band from Ashby-de-la-Zouch , Leicestershire , UK .

Band history

The band was founded in 1997 by Henry Dartnall (vocals, guitar), his brother Thomas (vocals, bass) alias "The House of Lords" and Oliver Askew (drums, background vocals). First they called themselves Simple Pastoral Existence and then Pony Club . Because they had the same name as another musician, they had to rename themselves again and changed the band name to The Young Knives before their first release . Originally from North West Leicestershire , the trio moved to Oxford in 2002 . At the Truck Festival they were discovered by the Shifty Disco label and in the same year they released the short album The Young Knives ... Are Dead with seven songs. In the following years, two EPs and joint appearances with established bands such as the Futureheads and Hot Hot Heat followed .

Eventually they were signed by Warner and in 2006 they released their debut single Here Comes the Rumor Mill . This song hit the top 40 in the UK charts, along with She's Attracted To and Weekends and Bleak Days . The debut album Voices of Animals and Men with the three hits reached number 21 on the album charts in September of that year. The Young Knives also appeared at South by Southwest in Austin / Texas and in 2007 the album was also released in the USA. The following year Warner's second LP Superabundance was released and it was as successful as the debut. She brought them two more chart hits.

It then took three years until the next album. However, Ornaments from the Silver Arcade could not build on the previous successes and missed the top 75.
