Yuanmou
The circle Yuanmou ( 元谋县 , Yuanmou Xiàn ) is part of the Autonomous County , Chuxiong Yi in the southwest China province of Yunnan . Yuanmou has an area of 1,803 km² and approx. 210,000 inhabitants (end of 2004).
The fossils of the Yuanmou man were discovered in Yuanmou . Furthermore, the place was the godfather for a fossil relative of the orangutans from the genus Lufengpithecus , called Lufengpithecus yuanmouensis, discovered here . Yuanmou is also known for its dinosaur fossils - the sauropod Yuanmousaurus is named after this circle.
Administrative structure
At the community level, Yuanmou consists of three large communities and seven communities . These are:
- Greater community Yuanma (元马镇), 50,994 inhabitants (2000), the capital, the seat of county government;
- Greater community Huangguayuan (黄瓜园镇), 37,064 inhabitants (2000);
- Greater community Yangjie (羊街镇), 17,351 inhabitants (2000);
- Laocheng Township (老 城乡), population 30,245 (2000);
- Community Wumao (物茂乡), 15,922 inhabitants (2000);
- Municipality Jiang Bian (江边乡), 14,802 inhabitants (2000);
- Xinhua Township (新华 乡), 7,616 residents (2000);
- Pingtian municipality (平 田乡), population 11,173 (2000);
- Community Liangshan (凉山乡), 3,747 inhabitants (2000);
- Jiangyi Township (姜 驿 乡), population 13,865 (2000).
