Yucca brevifolia subsp. herbertii (English common name : Webber's Yucca) is a subspecies of the Joshua palm lily ( Yucca brevifolia ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
description
Yucca brevifolia subsp. herbertii forms large, dense groups with many stems that form numerous rosettes. The species reaches a height of 10 meters. The flowering period is from April to May. They are frost-hardy to minus 15 ° C, but very sensitive to moisture and should therefore be protected all year round.
distribution
Yucca brevifolia subsp. herbertii is distributed in the USA in the state of California in the Mojave Desert in plains, on flat slopes at 1200 to 1550 m altitude. It grows together with numerous species of cacti .
Systematics
The name was chosen in honor of Herbert John Webber, the father of the author John Milton Webber. The description is by Fritz Hochstätter under the name Yucca brevifolia subsp. herbertii was published in 2001.
Synonyms are Yucca brevifolia f. herbertii J.M.Webber 1953 and Yucca brevifolia var. herbertii (JMWebber) Munz 1958.
