Seabear is an indie folk band from Reykjavík , Iceland .

Band history

Seabear initially started as a solo project by Sindri Sigfússon, who had already composed his own songs as a singer-songwriter for a long time . In the early 2000s, Sindri recorded the long player I'm Me on Sundays and the EP Singing Arc in his home studio , both of which he produced himself. The project had its first increase in staff when Sindri was supposed to perform live for the first time in Berlin and therefore asked his two friends Örn Ingi Ágústsson and Guðbjörg Hlín Guðmundsdóttir if they would support him musically.

After all, there were six band members who recorded the first album together in Sindri's small home studio. The Ghost That Carried Us Away was released in late 2007 and received very good reviews. The Berlin label Morr Music , which had tied the band for three albums, took over promotion and distribution . In 2007 the band was on a European tour and also performed in Germany. During this time the musician Sóley Stefánsdóttir joined the band as the seventh member. She plays guitar and keyboard. In November 2007 Seabear released a cover of the Undertones as a single with Teenage Kicks .

In 2008 the band went on tour intensively. In 2009 the group became quieter. In 2010 Seabear released a single with Lion Face Boy / Cold Summer after a long time. The album We Built a Fire followed .

style

The songs composed by Sindri are characterized by their melodic structure and lyrical sensitivity. The musical accompaniment of the tender, restrained vocals with guitars, piano, drums, glockenspiel, strings, double bass and harmonica gives the music a playful touch of easy-listening folk.
