Yuh Woon-hyung (born May 25, 1886 in Yangpyeong Province , formerly Korea , now South Korea ; † July 19, 1947 in Seoul in Chōsen , then Japan , now South Korea) or Lyuh Woon-hyung was a Korean politician and independence activist.
Yuh Woon-hyung initially campaigned for the independence of Korea from Japan and after the end of the Second World War he led a political movement for a united North and South Korea together with Kim Kyu-sik . In 1945 he was briefly vice president in a provisional post-war government led by Rhee Syng-man , who later became the first president of South Korea . After several assassinations had already committed on him, Yuh Woon-hyung was shot on July 19, 1947 by a refugee from North Korea . Presumably this happened at the instigation of Rhee Syng-man, who later helped the assassin to escape to Japan .

- ↑ According to the current international legal situation in the dispute over the annexation treaty, the Chosen / Korea region remained de jure part of the Japanese Empire or Japan (from May 2, 1947) as its successor state until the founding of South Korea on August 15, 1948 (see also main article ). De facto, the region was administered by America between 1945 and 1948. In consistency with WP: NK # Other language areas , the official Japanese name "Chosen" was used. On the other hand, Seoul is correct instead of Kejiō, as the city officially renamed itself that way in 1945.
