Yumi Kokamo

Yumi Kokamo ( Japanese 小鴨 由 水 , Kokamo Yumi ; born December 26, 1971 in Akashi ) is a former Japanese marathon runner .

After high school, she joined the Daihatsu corporate team in 1990 . With a 20 km time of 1:07:10 h, achieved on November 10, 1991 in Kobe as a preliminary performance, she won the Osaka Women's Marathon on her debut and set a Japanese record and one with 2:26:26 h Debut world record.

So she qualified for the Olympic Games in Barcelona , where she only finished 29th in 2:58:18. In 1993 she left Daihatsu and enrolled at the Ryūkoku University Short College from 1994 to 1996 to study social work.

In 1996 she joined the corporate team from Iwataya , where she was trained by Morio Shigematsu . In 1998 she married and took the family name Matsunaga ( 松 永 ). When Iwataya dissolved his team the following year, she left the company and ended her sporting career.

Today she is the mother of two children and works in Fukuoka as an instructor in disabled sports and elderly care centers. She is still active as a people's runner , and since the beginning of 2009 she has been the captain of the women's athletics club First Dream AC, founded by Morio Shigematsu . Shortly thereafter, she started the Osaka Women's Marathon - her first serious marathon since the Olympics - and finished in 58th place in 2:58:52. Her goal of undercutting her time from Barcelona in 1992 was then fulfilled in the Hokkaidō marathon of the same year with 2:52:59 (20th place).
