distribution

The Yunnan bush rat is only known from the Ruili region in Yunnan Province in the People's Republic of China and is likely endemic there .

Way of life

Almost nothing is known about the way of life of the Yunnan bush rat. The animals are nocturnal and live on the ground, they live at altitudes around 970 to 1300 meters.

Systematics

The Yunnan bush rat is classified as a separate species within the Hadromys genus , which consists of two species. The first scientific description was made by Yang Guangrong and Wang Yingxiang in 1987, they carried out this on the basis of individuals from the Ruili region in Yunnan province, which had been collected in 1985 at an altitude of 970 to 1300 m. In their first description, Yang and Wang classified the Yunnan bush rat as a subspecies of the Manipur bush rat ( Hadromys humei ). A specimen from the same region had already been examined in 1983 and, despite existing differences, was provisionally assigned to the Manipur bush rat.

Hazard and protection

The species is not classified in a hazard category by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) due to a lack of knowledge about the population and the way of life, but is listed as "data deficient". There are no known threats to the stocks. In China the species is considered endangered.
