Counting magnet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A counting magnet is a special relay that was used in electromechanical switching technology and in control and regulation technology.

Properties and use

Counting magnets in a large citomat from SEL

With a counting magnet, up to ten current pulses can be counted and evaluated. It was used in switching systems in which the pulses sent in the pulse dialing process were not used directly to set a dialer , but were first counted in order to then switch through the corresponding connection path with the help of a crossbar or otherwise indirectly controlled switching network . The component was also used to record fees.

description

The special relay has two windings and ten armatures , each with an associated contact and a zero contact. It works on the principle of a latching relay by using the residual magnetism so that the armature does not fall back into its rest position when the current is interrupted. Each armature switches a working contact and prepares the magnetic circuit of the downstream armature in such a way that it picks up the pull-in winding with the next pulse and interrupts the contact of the armature in front, so that after n pulses (n≥1∧n≤10 ) the nth contact has switched through. The zero contact, a normally closed contact, is activated together with the first normally open contact with the first pulse and remains in this position until all armatures that have been attracted up to that point are thrown off again by a pulse on the discharge winding.

The counting magnet takes the place of two flat relays . The component is relatively sensitive to magnetic stray fields.
