Zachary Svajda (born November 29, 2002 in La Jolla , San Diego , California ) is an American tennis player .

Career

Zachary Svajda receives home tuition from his father Tom and is also trained by him. Svajda is a blue-chip recruit and the top rated player in his class, which means he is highly sought after by universities. He is expected to graduate from high school in 2021 .

He competes in tournaments of the Junior Tour as well as those of the professionals. In his only Grand Slam tournament for juniors at the US Open 2019 in singles, he lost to eventual winner Jonáš Forejtek in the first round. In the junior rankings he came up to 246th. By winning the USTA Boys' 18s national championships , the championships of the under-18s, he won a wildcard for the main draw of the US Open 2019 in singles as the youngest at the age of 16 Player since Donald Young 2005. There he lost his match in five sets against the Italian Paolo Lorenzi after cramps all over his body . Despite the defeat, the American got attention and is considered a promising talent for the future. In Fairfield he came to his first victory in a Challenger tournament later that year .
