The Zadzik Chapel is one of the 19 chapels that surround the Kraków Cathedral . It is also called Kościelecki Chapel. It is dedicated to John the Baptist and is located in the southern ambulatory .

history

The chapel was built around 1351 in the Gothic style. It was rebuilt around 1515 in Renaissance style for the late Krakow burgrave Andrzej Kościelecki . Another renovation, this time in the Baroque style, was carried out for Bishop Jakub Zadzik between 1642 and 1647. The Gothic interior (choir stalls and altars) were given to churches in the Kraków area. From the 17th century, the candidates for the Polish crown were prepared for the ceremony in the chapel before the coronation.

The altarpiece was created by Wojciech Stattler in 1834 . He gave the facial features of Adam Mickiewicz in the painting John the Baptist . The baroque interior is attributed to Sebastian Sala .
