Dental prophylaxis assistant
The dental prophylaxis assistant ( ZMP ) is the job title of a dental assistant who has completed advanced training. The aim of the advanced training is to impart comprehensive knowledge in the areas of caries and gingivitis prophylaxis and professional tooth cleaning in order to carry out treatments under dental supervision that are intended to prevent tooth and gum disease. This includes educating patients about proper dental care. Dental prophylaxis assistants are primarily employed in dental practices and dental clinics. They can also find employment with health authorities .
entry requirements
The training can be completed by anyone
- has passed the examination as a dental assistant or dental assistant,
- worked as a dental assistant or dental assistant for at least 1 year after completing the professional training,
- provides evidence of knowledge in accordance with the X-ray Ordinance .
Depending on the dental association , further requirements may be required, for example in Bavaria proof of having attended a cardiopulmonary resuscitation course of at least 9 teaching units.
education
According to the model advanced training regulations of the German Dental Association (BZÄK), the training comprises 350 hours, which can be carried out in dual form. This means that the training is carried out in parallel with practice. Each dental association can determine the division of the hours and the scope itself.
- In the area of the Bavarian State Dental Association , the advanced training is divided into different blocks (modular training) and comprises at least 224 teaching hours. In addition, there are 176 hours of practical lessons by keeping an attestation book.
- In the area of the State Dental Association of Baden-Württemberg , the advanced training includes at least 400 hours, which are divided into "Group and individual prophylaxis", 70 hours, "Making situation impressions and temporary solutions", 30 hours, "Fissure sealing of caries-free teeth", 30 hours, internship ( Requirement specification) with at least 100 hours and a ZMP advanced course with at least 170 hours.
The duration is 3 months full-time, 6–7 months part-time.
Training content
The following training content is taught:
- Collection of plaque and bleeding indices
- Caries risk assessment and development of therapy proposals
- Carrying out professional teeth cleaning in the visible area
- Counseling and motivating patients to prevent oral diseases and to change their behavior
- Fissure sealing
- Rubber dam
- Impression taking
- Ergonomic working posture and systematic treatment planning
- Intensive practical exercises
The training ends with a final exam. The training costs are between 1,600 euros and 4,055 euros.
salary
After the advanced training to become a dental prophylaxis assistant, a salary increase of up to 25% is possible. The average salary is € 1,793, in a range between € 1,100 and € 3,800, depending on the federal state, professional experience, age and length of service.
