Zak Benjamin Whitbread (born March 4, 1984 in Houston , Texas , United States ) is an American football player who has been under contract with the English third division club Shrewsbury Town since 2015 .

career

Although a supporter of Manchester United , Whitbread, at the insistence of his father, English coach Barry Whitbread , joined the youth division of Liverpool as an eight-year-old . There he went through all ages and was appointed to the US U15 selection.

As part of an Asia tour of his club in the summer of 2003, Whitbread made the first team's squad and was used once.

A short time later he was appointed to the U20 team of the United States and was in the squad at the U20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in the same year. He played all five games up to the quarter-finals before the selection failed to Argentina. He was also nominated for the qualification for the Olympic Games in Athens , but because of an injury sustained in training, he was only able to play one game.

In October 2004 he made his competitive debut for Liverpool FC when he was used in the 3-0 away win in the League Cup at Millwall FC . In the 05/06 Champions League season he played alongside Sami Hyypiä , one of his idols, in qualifying against TNS Llansantffraid and in the second round against FBK Kaunas .

Since he could not prevail at Liverpool FC, he was loaned to Millwall FC during the 05/06 season. In the Football League Championship he was able to convince the club and despite relegation to Football League One, he was firmly committed after the end of the season.

On January 8, 2010, he moved to Norwich City in the second-rate Football League Championship .
