Zapping

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zapping [ zæpɪŋ ] is a term from the early days of the United States ( " Wild West ") in which the opponent was "shot down" ( English zapped ). The word has found its way into everyday language today , so TV viewers zap (switch) through several channels in quick succession. Further meanings are:

  • Companies are zapped by their customers by spontaneously changing business relationships (for example when changing electricity providers )
  • order in dense frequent changes to "faster" lanes, moving traffic faster to get ahead
  • Change of ( fun sport ) winter sports equipment during a winter vacation
  • English zapping the generation describes an arc-like noise or effects on websites that flash or intrusive want to attract attention in a different way

TV zappers use the advertising sections to browse through other programs and then switch back to the original program or to wander through the programs to find the funniest or most exciting highlights from the program or use the switching technology to pursue the goal of watching several programs at the same time.

According to a survey carried out by the research institute Ipsos in 2007 , the once popular zapping through the channels is declining. TV viewers would therefore choose more targeted TV programs again. 56 percent of those surveyed stated that they would follow a selected program to the end.
