history

Zarges box from 1971

In 1933 the brothers Walther and Hellmuth Zarges founded the first light metal construction company in Europe in Stuttgart . In 1938, the brothers started the serial production of ladders made of aluminum . The following year the company moved to Weilheim in Upper Bavaria for capacity reasons .

In 1951 the ZARGES folding box was introduced. For the increasing volume of goods being transported by rail, stable packaging was required, which should, however, take up as little space as possible during return transport. The folding box could be folded up to a third of its original size. Over a million such boxes were delivered to Deutsche Bahn . The dimensions of the folding boxes became the standard and are still decisive for modern logistics today . From 1955 to 1965 the plant in Weilheim was expanded and another plant was built in Peiting. In 1966 the company applied for a patent for the metal pipe ladder . In addition, the company was involved in setting up the radio link with antennas made of light metal . In the 1960s and 1970s, the Weilheim-based company also built cable car gondolas , some of which are still in use in the Alpine region today. From 1973 to 1996 the production was further expanded and modernized, further subsidiaries were founded in Denmark, England, the Czech Republic and Poland. In the following year, the French Tubesca group was bought and a subsidiary was founded in Sweden, in 1998 the managerial division of Kecskemét Aluminum AG was bought, and a joint venture with MobilCoop, Hungary, of 70% took place. In 1999 Comabi SNC, France, was bought; VAW and the Zarges family sold their shares in 2000 to NIB Capital Private Equity NV, later Taros Capital GmbH. In 2002 the French ladder manufacturer Artrub was bought. In the following year, the subsidiary Zarges BV was founded in Oisterwyk, which is responsible for the markets in Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2004 a new product line was introduced under the name Z600_500 and Z300_200. In 2006 Taros Capital GmbH sold Zarges Tubesca to Granville Baird Capital Partners in Hamburg. Since 2007, Zarges Tubesca has been active in the wind and aerospace industries with its two new business areas for aluminum systems .

In 2016, the holding was dissolved and Tubesca was sold to the French family company Frénéhard & Michaux, while ZARGES GmbH continues to operate in its core business.
