Zaxxon is an arcade game released by Sega in 1982 and belongs to the Shoot 'em up genre . The idea of the game in Zaxxon is that the player flies in a spaceship through a kind of fortress and shoots down all enemies on the way. The aim of the game is to penetrate the fortress as far as possible with the spaceship and to eliminate as many opponents as possible.
When Zaxxon came out, it was the first game with an isometric perspective that represented spatial depth, a 3D scroller so to speak. The game idea was a direct copy of the 2D game Scramble , but while with Scramble the flight path of the spaceship could only be changed in height, with Zaxxon it was also possible to steer the spaceship sideways thanks to the perspective representation. The altitude can be recognized by the size of the spaceship and the distance to its shadow.
In the same year a revised version called Super Zaxxon appeared , in which you shot at a dragon at the end (in Zaxxon a robot).
