Zbigniew Józef Kraszewski

Zbigniew Józef Kraszewski (born February 12, 1922 in Warsaw ; † April 4, 2004 ibid) was a Polish Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Warsaw-Praga .

Life

Kraszewski was born in 1922 as the son of a captain in the Polish army. In autumn 1942 he graduated from the NSZ's infantry cardette school with the rank of sergeant . In September 1942 he was secretly admitted to the seminary of the Archdiocese of Warsaw . After the war he continued his studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology of the University of Warsaw . Archbishop Stefan Wyszyński ordained him as a priest on March 12, 1949 in Warsaw. Afterwards he was pastor in Leszno, Piastów and Warsaw. In 1954 he received his doctorate in dogmatics . In 1963 and 1964 he studied in Rome. Between 1956 and 1970 he worked at the Seminary of St. John the Baptist in Warsaw.

On November 17, 1970, Pope Paul VI appointed him titular bishop of Horreomargum and auxiliary bishop in Warsaw. On December 8, 1970, Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński donated him the episcopal ordination . Co-consecrators were the Warsaw Auxiliary Bishops Waclaw Majewski and Jerzy Modzelewski . From 1970 to 1992 he was Vicar General of the Archdiocese.

With the establishment of the diocese of Warsaw-Praga on March 25, 1992, Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop of the new diocese. On December 6, 1997, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. He died on April 4, 2004 and was buried in the family grave in the Powązki cemetery .
