Zbigniew Lengren (born February 2, 1919 in Tula , Russia , † October 1, 2003 in Warsaw ) was a Polish caricaturist , graphic artist , illustrator and poet .

Life

Lengren spent his childhood in Thorn , where his father Juliusz was a representative of the Swedish company Ericsson , and later studied at the faculty of fine arts at the university there .

He made his debut as a cartoonist in Stańczyk magazine in 1944 . Since 1946 he published his caricatures in the Przekrój magazine , to which he remained loyal for over 50 years. His most famous figure, with whom he also became known in Germany, is the absent- minded professor Filutek , who has to be rescued from many a difficult situation by his dog Filuś .

Lengren was also known in Poland as a poet who wrote especially poems for children. One of his books was published under the title Black, White and Striped Children as an adaptation by James Krüss in the children's book publisher Berlin . As an illustrator, Lengren created the pictures for the Polish editions of the Doctor Dolittle books . In West Germany, Lothar-Günther Buchheim published a Professor Filutek book in his private publishing house.

Polish children awarded Lengren the Order of Smiles ( Order Uśmiechu ).
