Zdeňka Veřmiřovská

Zdeňka Veřmiřovská (born June 27, 1913 in Kopřivnice , † May 13, 1997 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak apparatus gymnast . She won an Olympic medal both before and after World War II .

Career

At the Gymnastics World Championships in Budapest in 1934 , gymnastics competitions for women were also on the program for the first time, with an all-around competition with an individual rating and a team rating. In the team competition, the team from Czechoslovakia won with Maria Bajerová , Vlasta Děkanová , Vlasta Foltová , Eleonora Hajková , Vlasta Jarusková and Zdeňka Veřmiřovská, in the individual competition Vlasta Děkanová won.

The first Olympic competition in women's gymnastics took place in 1928. At the Olympic Games in 1936 , as in 1928, a team competition was on the program. The German team won ahead of the team from Czechoslovakia with Jaroslava Bajerová, Vlasta Děkanová, Božena Dobešová , Vlasta Foltová, Anna Hřebřinová , Matylda Pálfyová , Zdeňka Veřmiřovská and Marie Větrovská .

The 1938 World Gymnastics Championships were held in Prague. For women, like four years before, the all-around competition with individual and team competitions was on the program. In the individual standings, Vlasta Děkanová won ahead of Zdeňka Veřmířovská and Matylda Pálfyová. In the team classification, the Czechoslovak squad won with Maria Bajerová, Vlasta Děkanová, Božena Dobešová, Vlasta Foltová, Eleonora Hajková, Vlasta Jarusková, Matylda Palffyova and Zdeňka Veřmiřovská.

When the first Olympic Games after the Second World War were held in London in 1948, only one team competition was on the program in women's gymnastics. At the Olympic Games , the team from Czechoslovakia with Zdeňka Honsová , Marie Kovářová , Miloslava Misáková , Milena Müllerová , Věra Růžičková , Olga Šilhánová , Božena Srncová and Zdeňka Veřmiřovská won the gold medal from the United States in the Hungarian all-round competition. Eliška Misáková was also awarded the medal posthumously .
