Dudley Phillips
Dudley Phillips (born June 9, 1960 in Maidenhead ) is a British jazz and fusion musician ( double bass , bass guitar ).
Live and act
Phillips, bass-playing initially self-taught taught, visited in 1979, the Guildhall School of Music and began with such diverse musicians like the trombonist Annie Whitehead , saxophonist Tim Whitehead , drummer Richard Bailey and vibraphonist Robinson Orphy record and play . In 1992 he founded the jazz group Perfect Houseplants with pianist Huw Warren , saxophonist Mark Lockheart and drummer Martin France , with whom he released six albums.
Philipps continued to work with Andy Sheppard , Billy Cobham , Jim Mullen , Iain Ballamy , Graham Collier , Steve Lodder, and Martin Speake . He has toured internationally with Bill Withers , Mica Paris , Womack & Womack , Mark Knopfler and Loreena McKennitt and has also been on recordings of Ryder , Robert Wyatt , Cedar Walton , Colin Towns , Marc Almond , John Harle , Tim Robbins , Amy Winehouse , Jacqui Dankworth , Ayub Ogada, Susheela Raman and Yazz Ahmed . He also accompanied musicians such as Anja Garbarek and Sophie B. Hawkins . In the field of world music he has performed with Sibongile Kumalo, Amadou & Mariam , Mustapha Bukbu, Cibelle, Hossam Ramzy , Chonchi Heredia, Tunde Jegede and the Saurang Orchestra of Surinder Sandhu and in the field of folk with June Tabor , Mark Nevin, Mary Coughlan , Eddie Reader and singer-songwriter Adam Masterson. He also worked with Alexander Bălănescu , the Almeida Ensemble and the composers Stephen Warbeck , Kevin Sargent and Will Gregory.
Under his own name, Dudley first presented the album Life without Trousers ; The album BASSheARTMANtra followed in 2017 (recorded without other musicians) . As a songwriter he worked for Mônica Vasconcelos , the Orlando Consort , Perfect Houseplants and Filomena Campus. He is visiting professor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the Guildhall School of Music and Middlesex University .
