June Tabor (born December 31, 1947 in Warwick , England ) is a British jazz, classical and folk music singer.
life and work
June Tabor trained as a librarian at Oxford University . In the mid-1970s, she started a career as a singer. Her education helped her choose melodies and lyrics that were sometimes very difficult to find. With Maddy Prior from the folk rock band Steeleye Span , she formed the vocal duo Silly Sisters in 1978, which recorded a record of traditional folk songs under this name in the same year. The second production of the Silly Sisters followed ten years later with the album No More to the Dance . In addition, she often worked with the folk guitarist Martin Simpson and recorded two folk rock albums in cooperation with the Oysterband .
June Tabor made her debut as a solo artist in 1976 with a ballad album with English traditionals , airs & graces . With her soft alto voice she likes to interpret ballads and chanson-like songs. She sang many pieces a cappella , but has been playing with the jazz musician and composer Huw Warren for several years . In addition to English-language songs, she sang songs in Yiddish and French.
June Tabor lives with her husband, violinist Mark Emerson of Ensemble 1651 , in County Shropshire , England .
