The Kinderberg colliery is a former hard coal mine in Mülheim - Eppinghofen . The mine was also known as the Zeche Kinderbergwerk . The name of the mine is derived from the Kinderberg seam. Another origin of the name can be derived from the child labor in mining that was common at the time. The mine has a history of over 130 years. It belonged to the domain of the Broich lordship .

Mining history

In the period between the end of the 17th century and 1730, the colliery operated a conveyor tunnel to the Ruhr together with the Wiesche , Leybank and Sellerbecker Stolln collieries . In 1730 the large tunnel was dismantled and the mine was already building substations . After the mine had existed for a long time, plans were made to open a new tunnel from the Ruhr. The tunnel should be driven in an easterly direction to the Essen monastery. In 1783, in cooperation with the Wiesche and Schökenbank collieries, further coal reserves were searched for. In 1810, mining was carried out with one tunnel and one die. From February 1813 the mine was out of operation again. This year six miners were laid out on the mine. From March 1818 work-up work was carried out and operations were restarted on an experimental basis. In the following year, substation construction was carried out again. In 1821, old coal piers that had been left standing by the previous mining industry were mined. In 1823 mining continued. In 1833 the mine was in operation, it is not clear whether any mining was carried out. In 1837 the Kinderberg seam was loosened by the Wiescher Erbstollen . After that year, the mine will not be mentioned in the records for many years. In the first half of 1861 a four-Lachter deep shaft was sunk . Thereafter, there is no further information about the Kinderberg colliery.
