The Schökenbank colliery is a former hard coal mine in Mülheim . The mine was also known as the Schökebank colliery . The mine worked on a seam that was an opposite wing of the Kinderberg colliery . The Schökenbank colliery was part of the Broich domain . The name of the mine is derived from the seam in which the mine worked. In this seam, the coal surrounded the sediment and was therefore called the bone bank and, according to the local name, Schökebank. The mine has a history of over 100 years.

Mining history

The tunnel of the Schökenbank colliery was excavated north of the Hingberge as far as the Winkhauser Feld . The resulting mountains were piled up to the side of the tunnel when the tunnel was driven. Since the tunnels' water slope was often clogged and the pit water could not drain off sufficiently, operation of the tunnel was stopped at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1779 the colliery worked with the Kinderberg and Wiesche collieries to explore a new deposit . The Schökenbank colliery was shut down around 1800. The reason for the closure was the collapse of the tunnel . In 1832 an old shaft was reworked, it had a depth of 10 holes . After 1832 the mine is no longer mentioned in the documents.
