history

In 1907 the three mine fields of the closed collieries Sebastopol, Malakoff and Wengern were acquired. The mine went into operation in August of the same year. In the following year, a tunnel was set up in the Wengern field, south of today's Thyssen stainless steel works . The tunnel was starting from the Ruhr Valley to the west ascended . In 1909 the length of the tunnel was already 866 meters. Funding began towards the end of the year . In 1910 the tunnel reached a length of 1160 meters. That same year, the Sebastopol field was above the tunnels solved . In 1911 the tunnel reached a length of 1910 meters. Mining in the Sebastopol field began that year . In the following year, the tunnel was driven to a length of 2100 meters. In the same year, the pit field of the Dahlias colliery was acquired and put into operation. On June 28, 1913, the Markana colliery was shut down. The reasons for the shutdown were varied. On the one hand, unfavorable seam conditions were encountered, and on the other hand, the coal mined was difficult to sell. There was also a strong inflow of mine water . All of this resulted in the Markana union going bankrupt . In 1958 the Geviertfelder Sebastopol and Malakoff were added to the Neu Mecklingsbank colliery.
