The Sengsbank colliery in Gevelsberg-Silschede is a former hard coal mine . The mine was also known under the names Zeche Sengstbank and Zeche Sencksbank . According to Niemeyer's map, the mine was located north of today's Schwelmer Strasse.
Mining history
A length field was awarded on February 7, 1749 . In the years 1754 and 1755 the mine was in operation under the name Zeche Sencksbank. According to the records of the Office weather was Küper to Asbeck trades of the mine. For cost reasons, the trade had not hired a shift supervisor. From 1787, the mine was entered on the Niemeyer's map. In February 1829 the mine was put back into operation. A place was driven to the east. In 1830 the Wilhelm shaft was mined . That year a production of 3566 bushels was achieved, but the coals were of poor quality. In October 1831 the Sengsbank colliery was closed.
