Zehendermätteli
The Zehendermätteli (sometimes also notated as Zehndermätteli ) is a place in the north of the urban area of Bern . It is located in the north-west of the Engeh peninsula and belongs to the Länggasse-Felsenau district .
The Zehendermätteli is located on flat ground in a loop of the Aare with a diameter of 300 meters, across from Bremgarten . The place is on the edge of a 4 hectare large open area on the otherwise wooded northern narrow peninsula. It can be reached from Bremgarten with the Zehendermätteli – Bremgarten ferry or from the Engeh peninsula via Reichenbachstrasse.
The place consists of a few buildings. There is a nursery with a flower shop, a tree nursery and a restaurant.
Directly north of the village is the so-called "Celtic Wall", a straight 300 m long wall of Celtic origin.
The name goes back to the two brothers Ludwig Emanuel and Emanuel Zehender . Until 1798 you were the last holder of the so-called woodworking master of Bern. The Zehendermätteli had been the summer residence of this incumbent since 1656.
The restaurant has existed since 1814.
