Homer "Zeke" Clemons was an American country musician .

Life

Clemons' life data as well as his way of life are largely in the dark to this day. A certain "Homer Zerle Clemons" was born in Van Zandt County near Dallas , Texas , in 1913 and died in 1961. However, it is not clear whether this is the same person.

Clemons began his career as a musician in the 1930s before World War II . During the war he was drafted into the military, but was again bassist in Jimmie Davis ' band in 1944 , where he played with other musicians such as Moon Mullican , Joe Shelton and Johnny Gimble . Then he began his solo career. Until the 1950s, Clemons played western swing with his own band around Dallas and in north Texas. He never renewed his style, but remained stuck with the western swing of the 1930s. He made his first recordings in late 1946 or early 1947 for Swing Records from Paris, Texas. With a much smaller band, a record was released shortly thereafter on Blue Bonnet Records. These recordings were re-released in the 1950s.

Around the same time, Clemons was also a businessman. In Dallas he bought jukeboxes and rented them to cafes, bars and other places in the city. Often his jukeboxes also played his own records. In 1950 he was head of the Texas Swingbillies , which in addition to Clemons ( bass / vocals ) consisted of Dub Dickerson ( guitar ), Joe Rea ( drums ), Tiger Echols ( electric guitar ), Red Mullins (vocals) and Ken Lasater ( steel guitar ). He played with the Texas Swingbillies at Round-Up Club No.2 in Dallas and made recordings for Imperial Records in 1950 . During this session he made four records. For example, Dallas Limited was a song by Jimmie Davis that was also recorded by Milton Brown as a Brownie Special , while Oklahoma Bound was a re-arrangement of the Moon Mullican song Mean Mama Blues .

After the Imperial records, Clemons continued to perform around Dallas and was used from time to time as a studio musician by RCA Victor (including on Lee Bell's 1952 session). In 1954, Clemons had a car accident that ended his career.
