The Zeller Hochterrasse east of the village of Zell , a district of the Bad Grönenbach municipality in the Unterallgäu district ( Bavaria ), is a registered geotope with the number 778R005. The geotope at an altitude of 680  m above sea level. NN extends over a length of 3100 meters with a width of 30 meters and a height of 10 meters on an area of ​​93,000 m². It is part of the geological spatial unit of the Iller - Lech region and is one of the classic research areas of Quaternary geology . By means of the clearly structured gravel terraces , Albrecht Penck was able to demonstrate the multiple structure of the Pleistocene . The valley floor dates from the Würme Ice Age and is bordered by the high terrace from the Rift Ice Age, which itself is bounded in the west by a terrace from the Mind Ice Age . The geotope that is not under protection is of completely natural origin and is considered an excursion, research and teaching object. The Bavarian State Office for the Environment classifies the important geotope in the region as rare and nationwide as frequent.
