Zenith (camera)
Zenit ( Russian Зенит ) is a brand name for cameras from the former Soviet Union ; they were manufactured in the mechanical factory Krasnogorsk ( Krasnogorski Mechanitscheski Sawod , KMZ) and in the optical-mechanical factory Belarus ( Belarusskoe Optiko-Mechanitscheskoe Objedinenie , BelOMO ), which arose from a merger of the Minski Mechanitscheski Sawod (MMZ) and the Vilieka Belarus .
Zenit has been making single lens reflex cameras since 1951 . The cameras in the Zenit E series are now among the most frequently sold cameras in the world.
Today BelOMO produces optical and mechanical individual parts, assemblies and devices in a joint venture with Carl Zeiss .
