The Central African Central Bank (French: Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale , also shortened to Banque Centrale ), BEAC for short , is the central bank of the African countries Equatorial Guinea , Gabon , Cameroon , Republic of the Congo , Chad and the Central African Republic . These countries form the Central African Economic and Monetary Union ( Communauté Économique et Monétaire de l'Afrique Centrale ).
The main branch of the Central African Central Bank is located in Yaoundé , the capital of Cameroon . At least one branch is maintained in each country of the CEMAC .
history
On June 29, 1901 , the Banque de l'Afrique Occidentale was founded for the French colonies in Africa, which in 1920 also expanded its activities to the Central African French territories. On April 2, 1941, the Caisse Centrale de la France Libre (CCFL) was founded to act as an issuing institution for Central Africa. On February 2, 1944, the company was renamed Caisse Centrale de la France d'Outre-Mer (CCFOM). As of December 25, 1945, the CFA franc began to be issued. On January 20, 1955, the Institut d'Émission de l'Afrique Equatoriale Français et du Cameroun was founded, which became the Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique Equatoriale et du Cameroun (BCEAC) on April 14, 1959 and since November 22nd 1972 bears the current name Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale and was initially the central bank of the Central African Customs and Economic Union (UDEAC), founded in 1964, until CEMAC was founded.
