Central Forces Protection Police

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Central Forces Protection Police ( ZKS ) were mobile units to support the VP precincts of the German People's Police (DVP) in the GDR .

History and assignment

The ZKS emerged from the rapid commandos formed in 1951 at the People's Police District Offices (VPKA). These Schnellkommandos existed until 1967. There were deployment formations of the protection police in case of emergency calls, required closed deployment of several police officers and the like. The radio patrol cars were assigned to the ZKS alone ; they were managed and deployed centrally by the VPKA Operational Duty Officer (ODH). Assigned to the ZKS - albeit with a high degree of independence in the service organization - were the service dog squadrons (DHS) of the VPKA. The ZKS were not part of the barracked units of the MdI , rather they were subordinate to the VPKA of the respective district. It can also be recognized by the fact that the barracked units wore light green badges of rank, while the ZKS wore the piping of the DVP service branches.

Within a district , the members of the district schools of the DVP were united to form hundreds ( companies ). However, they were not subject to the VPKA and were not part of the ZKS. They were only used by the respective heads of the district authorities of the DVP (BDVP).

In the event of mobilization , the ZKS formations would have been supplemented with pre-planned reservists . They had the so-called M card. Reservists who had done their military service in the barracked units, including in a VP standby , were preferred .

tasks

"The tasks of the temporary formations of the protection police consist of:

a) in the general police service

  • in solving tasks that cannot be ensured by the police patrol service and when the situation and situation make the closed mission necessary.

b) in a period of tension or in a state of defense

  • in solving tasks to maintain public order and security as in the cases mentioned under a),
  • in the fight against, arrest or liquidation of subversive forces, armed groups and gangs;
  • in the binding of opposing forces up to the use of district or district reserves;
  • in clearing up the area of action of opposing forces or in securing the area after the enemy has been smashed;
  • in exceptional cases in the temporary securing of important objects;
  • as reserve of the head of the People's Police District Office or chief of the district authority of the German People's Police. "

education

The training was organized monthly. In addition to instruction in police law, there was military training according to regulations for barracked units of the Ministry of the Interior. The relatives completed group and train combat shooting in attack and defense. As of November 1974, conscripts with pre-employment protection or criminal police were called up for the first time in the barracked units of the Presidium of the People's Police in Berlin (17th – 19th People's Police on standby ). They were concentrated in one company per standby and officers of the protection police carried out the first-time training / DVP with them in a few days. Until then, serving as a policeman at a People's Police District Office offered the opportunity to avoid being drafted into military service.

Armament and equipment

Initially, the ZKS were equipped with pistols and carbines. Later they were armed with a motorized rifle train - each police officer an AK-47 assault rifle , which was only issued for use, and a Makarov pistol , and each group a Kalashnikov light machine gun . The ZKS were used to reinforce the respective police stations. The usual radio patrol cars of the types Lada , Wartburg or Volga were available to them. Civil vehicles were also used. In addition, Robur and IFA W50 and L60 MTWs were available. Some agencies also had Russian UAZ vehicles .
