The Central Bus Station Greifswald (ZOB), also Greifswald bus station, is the central bus station of the West Pomeranian city of Greifswald . It is located directly at the main train station , parallel to the Stralsund-Berlin railway line .

history

Old bus station in 2006

The old bus station was opposite the train station, on the other side of Bahnhofstrasse. In its last form, it was built in 1982 and a green area with a pond was given up. The first bus station across from the train station dates back to the 1970s. The first planning for a new bus station began in 1997. But it wasn't until July 2010 that work began on the new location next to the station forecourt . Renovations up to this point in time brought a new information system, but a lack of storage facilities. The old information and social building was also on the edge of the bus station.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 27, 2010. The new central bus station was originally supposed to cost almost 2.4 million euros and be ready in 2011. However, the structural work for the multifunctional building and the arched roof had to be re- tendered at the beginning of 2011 and divided into smaller lots. The transport company's own data cable for internet and telephone was also not taken into account in the planning and the laying was only commissioned later. In addition, after completion in January 2012, there was a dispute between the builder (City of Greifswald) and the leaseholder of the ZOB ( Stadtwerke Greifswald ) about the obligation to maintain safety .

Ultimately, the new central bus station was opened on February 15, 2013. The total construction cost had increased to 2.662 million euros.

From July 2013 the old bus station was dismantled. For the time being, a green area with two asphalt paths is being created on the site. From 2015, the site is to be extensively redesigned for € 320,000. The 4,400 square meter area is integrated into the ramparts by a circumferential walkway . According to a press release from the city, the long-term goal is "to restore the wall base as access to the city center in accordance with the historical urban design".

investment

The heart of the system of the new ZOB is the mobility center - a modern social and information building. In addition to information material and facilities for bus drivers, there is a ticket sales and a waiting room - which, however, is closed outside the opening times of the ticket sales (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.). The new ZOB has a total of eight covered stops, three of which are reserved for city buses. The five other stops are intended for regional traffic and are also used by long-distance bus services . All bus platforms are equipped with dynamic passenger information systems. In the direction of Karl-Marx-Platz, the mobility center is followed by a parking space for buses that stay at the ZOB Greifswald for more than 20 minutes.
