Zenyattà Mondatta is The Police's third studio album . It was released by A&M Records in October 1980 . The album reached number one on the UK and number five in the US .

Emergence

The album was written while the band was on their second tour. During the four weeks of recording the band played a few gigs, for example at the Milton Keynes Festival and in Ireland . The band was under time pressure:

“We had taken over. We finished the album at 4am on the day we started the next world tour. We went to bed for a couple of hours and then traveled to Belgium for the first gig. "

For tax reasons, The Police were unable to record in the UK as intended. So they decided on the Netherlands . After the recordings, an extensive world tour began. The instrumental piece Behind My Camel was awarded a Grammy .

reception

Greg Prato wrote on the Allmusic.com website that the album was rightly called the best Police album. He also spoke of "one of the best rock albums of all time", although Sting himself later saw opportunities for improvement due to the time pressure during the recordings. He awarded five out of five stars.
