Emergence

Outlandos d'Amour already contained some of the band's biggest hits. These include So Lonely and Roxanne , who Sting took inspiration for after a concert by prostitutes he saw near the hotel after staying in a red light district in Paris . The plate was developed with a budget of 1,500 pounds sterling was added to the band by the brother of himself Stewart Copeland , Miles Copeland III , had borrowed. However, the band could only use Surrey Sound Studios when other bands could not keep their recording dates there. The recordings extended over a period of six months. Miles Copeland was not able to pay the full cost of the £ 2,000 studio stay until much later.

reception

Greg Prato wrote on the website Allmusic .com Outlandos d'Amour is by far the most straightforward album of the band. Sting was already a first-class songwriter back then. The record is one of the best debut albums that emerged from the punk / new wave movement of the 1970s. It awarded four and a half stars out of five.
