Production of the Zeppelin NT
Zeppelin is currently the manufacturer of the largest airships in the world and the only European supplier of large manned gas airships with active production. In contrast to many other large airship projects in the 1990s and with the backing of the Zeppelin Group, the development and market launch of a modern airship with a globally unique construction in a semi-rigid design with an internal frame was successful. Four NT Zeppelins had been completed by 2008. The Zeppelin NT is 75 meters long, has three engines of 147 kW each, is filled with helium, flies at up to 125 km / h and can carry 12 to 14 passengers.
Use of the Zeppelins NT
The first Zeppelin NT was completed in 1997. These airships are mainly used for sightseeing and advertising flights as well as for climate research and various science campaigns.
A zeppelin could be rented to De Beers from autumn 2005 to the end of 2007 for the exploration of diamond deposits . It was irreparably damaged shortly before the end of the job and then dismantled.
The second prototype could be sold to Japan.
Another prototype was delivered to the airship company Airship Ventures in San Francisco, California, via the Port of Hamburg. It was used for sightseeing flights 400 meters above the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Treasure Island. In November 2012 Airship Ventures ceased operations due to lack of demand in the USA.
Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik is a founding partner of Zeppelin University .
