history

The Banschaft Zeta was created in 1929 with the reorganization of the Yugoslav state from the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes into the Kingdom of Yugoslavia under Alexander I. With the establishment of the Croatian Banschaft in 1939, southern Dalmatia and Dubrovnik became part of the new Banschaft.

After the attack of the Hitler regime on the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the capitulation of Yugoslavia in 1941, the Zeta Banschaft was dissolved. The main part became Montenegro, which was reorganized by the Italian fascists as a state under their occupation. Eastern Herzegovina was added to the Ustasha state , and the parts of Metohija and Sandžak, which had previously belonged to the Banschaft, were divided between the Protectorate of Serbia and Albania, which was also under Italian occupation.

After the war, the republics of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia were formed in communist Yugoslavia; the Zeta Banschaft was not renewed.
