Zhang Chengdong ( Chinese  张呈栋 , Pinyin Zhāng Chéngdong ; born February 9, 1989 in Baoding ) is a Chinese football player . Zhang Chengdong is an all-rounder who plays particularly often in the right midfield. He was one of the few Chinese football professionals who dared to make the leap to Europe and has already played in Portugal, Germany and Spain.

Career

In the club

In August 2009, Zhang was discovered and signed in his Chinese homeland by the Portuguese third division club CD Mafra. In the Taça de Portugal eighth-final match away against Sporting Lisbon on January 20, 2010, Zhang was on the field for 90 minutes, but could not prevent the 3: 4 defeat despite his three goals. From August 2010 to June 2011 Zhang was loaned from his club to União Leiria and from August 2011 to June 2012 to SC Beira-Mar in the first-class Primeira League .

On August 23, 2012 it was announced that Zhang was awarded to the German second division club Eintracht Braunschweig until June 30, 2013 . Zhang was given the number 20 on his back. The center forward made his first competitive appearance for the Löwen on September 15, 2012 (5th match day), when he replaced Domi Kumbela in the 76th minute of the 1-0 home win against SSV Jahn Regensburg . At the end of the 2012/2013 season he was promoted to the first Bundesliga with Braunschweig. However, his expiring contract was not extended. He then moved back to China to Beijing Guoan , who two years later loaned him to Rayo Vallecano in Spain .

In the spring of 2016, Zhang returned from Madrid to his former club Beijing Guoan. In Beijing, Zhang captured a regular place in the right midfield and finished the season with the club in 5th place. On January 12, 2017, Zhang Chengdong switched to Chinese league rivals Hebei China Fortune . The transfer fee was almost 21 million euros, making Zhang Chengdong the most expensive Chinese footballer of all time.

In the national team

Zhang played his first full international for China in a friendly against Portugal on March 3, 2010, when he was substituted on in the 46th minute. He was also used in four World Cup qualifiers. Zhang's last international match was on February 29, 2012 against Jordan .
