Zhao Fei
Zhao Fei ( Chinese 赵 非 , Pinyin Zhào Fēi ; born May 1961 in Xi'an , Shaanxi ) is a Chinese cameraman .
Life
Zhao Fei is the son of an architect and grew up during the Cultural Revolution . From 1978 he studied camerawork at the Beijing Film Academy and graduated in 1982. Together with filmmakers like Chen Kaige , Zhang Yimou and Tian Zhuangzhuang, he belongs to the fifth generation of Chinese film. From the mid-1980s he worked for the first time as the chief cameraman for feature films. Internationally, he was best known for his collaboration with the American filmmaker Woody Allen , for whom he shot Sweet and Lowdown , Narrow-gauge crooks and Under the Spell of Jade Scorpio . For his work on Red Lantern , Zhao received a National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Cinematographer in 1993.
