August Schaarschmidt
August Schaarschmidt (born October 6, 1720 in Halle (Saale) , † April 24, 1791 in Bützow ) was a German medic. He was a professor at the University of Bützow .
Training, studies and work
Born in Halle as the son of pastor Justus Samuel Schaarschmidt (1664–1724), August Schaarschmidt, the younger brother of the physiologist and pathologist Samuel Schaarschmidt (1709–1748), attended the Joachimsthal School in Berlin until 1738 . Schaarschmidt then studied at the University of Halle from 1738 , where he received his doctorate in 1742. med. received his doctorate . As a result, Schaarschmidt initially worked as a physician in Rathenow , but resigned from this position in order to continue his education, particularly in the field of anatomy. To do this, he went to Berlin, where a little later he took a position as a doctor at the Charité hospital and finally ran a private practice from 1750 to 1760. In Berlin Schaarschmidt was also a professor of surgery and worked as a prosector at the anatomical theater , among others with Johann Nathanael Lieberkühn .
academic career
In 1760 August Schaarschmidt accepted a position at the newly founded University of Bützow . From 1760 to 1763 he held an extraordinary professorship for surgery and midwifery, from 1763 to 1789 then a full professorship for surgery and obstetrics. In 1764 Schaarschmidt received his master's degree in liberal arts from the University of Bützow. In 1772 he was awarded the title of court counselor. In 1776 he established a midwifery school in Bützow. When the University of Bützow was abolished in 1789 and reunited with the University of Rostock , Schaarschmidt was not taken over, but retired.
