Life

Gustav Willgeroth was born as the son of the Wismar merchant Louis Franz Willgeroth . He attended the large city school in his hometown as an extraneus and passed his Abitur at Michaelis' 1886. In the same year he began studying theology in Rostock . After a stay in Erlangen , he returned to Rostock University in October 1888, but did not bring his studies to a degree. From 1893 on, Willgeroth was the owner of the Wismar print shop Willgeroth & Menzel , which started publishing the Lyrische Blätter from 1897 . He published a volume of his own poems in 1898. In 1906 he gave up the printing press and instead worked in the Rostocker Bank branch in Wismar. From 1928 to 1936 he took over the management of the Wismar church tax office .

Along with Rudolf Kleiminger and Friedrich Crull, Willgeroth was one of those authors who published articles about Wismar in the Mecklenburg Yearbooks .

Gustav Willgeroth's biographical and genealogical publications are still considered to be particularly conscientious and reliable sources of Mecklenburg regional studies. The registers of Mecklenburg pastors in Mecklenburg-Schwerin , which he began and which were expanded to include all of Mecklenburg after the reunification of the two Mecklenburg Free States (1934), are continued under his name to this day.
