Rudolf Kleiminger (born November 19, 1884 in Neustadt i. Meckl. , † August 19, 1967 in Wismar ) was a German homeland researcher in Mecklenburg , author and educator .

Life

Rudolf Kleiminger, a son of the Protestant theologian and pastor Ludwig Kleiminger, who later worked in Teterow , received his humanistic education at the Friderico-Francisceum in Doberan . He studied mathematics, physics, zoology and botany at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , the Friedrichs University Halle and the University of Rostock . In 1906 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD.

After the probationary year in Güstrow and Parchim , Kleiminger was a teacher at the Schwerin grammar school from 1912 to 1924 . In the period from 1924 to 1945 he was senior director of the large city school in Wismar (today Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium). After the school was completely nationalized in 1923, the NSDAP had a decisive influence on school operations after the National Socialists came to power in 1933. As a reaction, Kleiminger founded the association “Old School Students of the Great City School in Wismar” in May 1933 with the aim of strengthening the feeling of togetherness of the association's members and, while preserving the humanistic tradition of the educational institution, to create a counterforce to National Socialism . The voluntary association of all former students still exists today. In memory of the former headmaster, the “Dr. Kleiminger Prize "awarded for outstanding achievements by students.

Rudolf Kleiminger is the author of works on the social and economic history of Mecklenburg and the urban history of the Hanseatic city of Wismar. His most important work is: "The history of the Great City School in Wismar from 1541 to 1945".

Manfred Hamann comments on the work “The Heiligengeist Hospital of Wismar in Seven Centuries”, with which Kleiminger made a contribution to Hanse research : “The book offers very interesting general economic-historical material, most of which was first made accessible by the author . You put the versatile book down with great profit; it illuminates many things with particular clarity, leads to new knowledge and encourages comparisons and further work ” .

family

Rudolf Kleiminger's ancestors, originally from the Gleimingerhof in Gleiming (Salzburger Land), immigrated to Mecklenburg as Salzburg exiles as a result of the Salzburg emigration edict , where the family is deeply rooted to this day. His nephews are the GDR national soccer player Heino Kleiminger and the Rostock regional superintendent Matthias Kleiminger , and his grandson is the current Rostock member of the Bundestag Christian Kleiminger (SPD). He is also related to the internationally important physicist and Nazi opponent Gustav Mie ( Mie scatter ).
